The Invisible Cost of Slow Load Times.

Every second your website takes to load, roughly 7% of your conversions leave. That's the conversion math. But there's a second accounting that most small businesses never see — the one Google runs silently, and the one that determines whether you appear at all.

Two Audiences. One Page Speed.

When we audit a business and find a 4-second load time, we flag it twice. Once for users — because people leave. And once for Google — because Core Web Vitals have been a confirmed ranking factor since 2021. A slow page is paying a double penalty: losing the visitor who arrived, and losing the next visitor who never will.

The businesses we audit most often are running on shared hosting, unoptimized WordPress installations, and images that were uploaded straight from a phone camera. A hero image that's 4MB doesn't feel like a problem until you realize it loads in 6 seconds on mobile — and 62% of local searches happen on mobile.

"Your website doesn't have to be fast. It just has to be faster than the competitor Google shows instead of you."

— Entropia Ventures, 2026

What We Fix First

In Phase 1 of every engagement, we run a technical audit against three categories. The quick wins — image compression, caching headers, font loading strategy — are often enough to drop load time by 40% before we touch a single line of SEO copy.

In one recent audit of a Houston event venue, we found a homepage loading at 5.8 seconds. Three technical fixes — image WebP conversion, lazy loading, and removing an abandoned chat widget script — brought it to 1.9 seconds. Rankings improved within 3 weeks without touching a keyword.

The Authority Drain

Beyond rankings, there's the authority signal. Google's crawl budget is finite. A slow site gets crawled less frequently. That means new pages you publish — a new service, a new location page, a blog article — take longer to enter the index. In local SEO where the difference between rank 1 and rank 4 is the difference between a phone call and nothing, crawl delay is a compounding tax on every piece of content you produce.

The fix isn't complicated. It's methodical. And it's the first technical step we take on every client we bring into the Visible plan.
